It always interests me when I check out what the latest trending searches on the web are.

The best is seeing what they are past the top 2 or 3. Then, it seems to go into areas I didn’t expect.

Here are the top 10 Google searches for today:

  1. Stimulus check

  2. MLB

  3. John Lewis

  4. Top 10 searches on Google. OK. we also have to take into consideration what part of the world these top ten subjects are important and being searched for to have a better understanding of them.

What do these searched subjects have to do with marketing? If marketing creates “want”, then we could have an idea what’s on people’s minds at this moment. If we take all that into consideration, then we can create ads that tap into them in a creative way to sell a service or product.

Tricky business, but first and foremost a marketing professional has to be creative enough to attract attention to a service or product. And, follow through with a sale.

Let’s take the number one searched subject on this list; the Stimulus check. Obviously, finances are on millions of people’s minds. Where is their next check coming from? What’s happening with their economy? Do they qualify for a stimulus check? You’ll also notice marketers are selling services and products with that on their minds and offer discounts or creative ways to sell while knowing most people are looking for deals.

In number two’s subject – Major League Baseball, it’s easy to recognize people are frustrated with not being able to enjoy a sport that takes their mind of the Convid-19 pandemic.

The number three item – John Lewis is significant and we see how relevant he is in many ways. The world has changed since his march back in the 60s but has also, unfortunately, stayed the same in some areas. His passing highlighted his achievements and also put the issues he fought for back in the public eye.

From numbers four to ten it’s anyone’s guess as to why they are there but I find number 10, Gold another tell of finances continuing to be of great importance to the population.

The moral of this blog story is this:
If you’re selling a product or service, find out what’s on people’s minds and be creative enough to communicate with them about that and then solve a problem for them.
